Two artists’ books of the 60s by Lourdes Castro, done in plastic materials based on coloured pages of cellulose acetate (CA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), are being studied in depth to characterise the materials, the state of conservation and the development of a suitable treatment methodology. Although similar, the books are in different states of repair – one is reasonably well-preserved but the other shows serious signs of wear and tear, with deformations and contractions due to physical and chemical deteriorations.

Goldsmithery is one of the arts but at the same time one of the economic sectors that is most closely rooted in the peoples of the North of Portugal. Possessing a millenary tradition, as continuously demonstrated by archaeological finds, this art has bequeathed to us a set of pieces, techniques, traditions, uses and customs, including some of an intangible nature, that must be safeguarded, particularly at a time when a number of realities linked to these areas is in grave danger of being lost.
