Abstract:

The aim of this investigation project is to detect a possible narrative content in the visual component of music inherent to the performance of Portuguese percussion solo and see how this content can interfere in the perception of the musical discourse. What gains, what losses, what transformations of what nature are reflected in the perception of the discourse? Does gesture have a narrative content able to interfere in and induce a sub-discourse on the musical plane?
Does the state of the art divided into two parts allow the anticipation, even if speculative, of a semantic connection between gesture and music?
In order to produce suitable analysis and measuring instruments, six works by important Portuguese authors on the national musical scene will be worked, analysed and recorded on audio and video. This will serve to outline a transversal plan and to catalogue Portuguese creation for percussion solo of an erudite nature.
