Abstract:

Based on the creation of historical, compositional, interpretative and pedagogical contextualisations and concepts, we will recover material from the music collection of Maestro Manuel Ivo Cruz (gifted to the Portuguese Catholic University) and of the concert society “Orpheon Portuense” (deposited at Casa da Música), namely with the organisation and cataloguing of manuscript scores of piano works by 5 Portuguese composers. We will then proceed to a critical and analytical publication of these works and record them in audiovisual format.
By assessing the inter-relation between interpretative lineages and different aesthetic orientations, through the case study of these composers/interpreters, we intend to launch the bases of possible paradigms of musical creation / interpretation in the 21st century.

Objectives:

To ascertain the aesthetics characteristics that prove and clarify the status of composer/interpreter based on his/her piano work in the first half of the 20th century in Porto.
